An Introduction

I suppose I’ve always been creative… From scribbling on walls with crayons as a toddler, to concocting childish works of art - cotton wool, glue, glitter, paint (you know the kind) - at nursery, to my first attempts at using pastels when I was just 4 years old…

I like to think I have come a long way since then…

Recognising my flair for art, both teachers and my parents encouraged my creativity in numerous ways and I am so grateful to them for that.
Art is what kept me going through some of the most troubling times in my life. When I was just 12 years old my brother became very ill and was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It was an extremely difficult time for our family and I lost myself in my artwork as often as I could, using it as an outlet to express how I felt…

Before going to College at 16 to study art and design, I taught myself to paint using acrylics … this is my first acrylic painting…

College helped me to grow and develop new techniques, thank goodness!!!

From my original painting of The Butterfly Violin I began to develop the idea of the butterfly lady to convey the need within myself to gain confidence, be happy and free, to express myself and my passion and to, one day, explore the world.
My first butterfly ladies were painted with such small wings… but now they are flourishing!
